Summary:

Homeownership rates are currently lower than expected at all ages in the US even as labor market outcomes - employment and wages - continue to improve. Even though household formation is beginning to pick up, the inventory of single family homes for sale is not being replaced quickly enough in many markets causing home prices to rise more quickly than we would expect this far into a recovery. Although higher prices should elicit new supply, single family starts remain relatively low relative to historic averages. This webinar will investigate the headwinds for single family construction and the implications for housing market outcomes over the next several years.

Objectives:

Attendees should expect to understand:
  • Trends in housing supply and demand, and their recent impacts on house prices and affordability
  • Recent patterns in single family starts and identify
  • Issues that are facing the homebuilding industry
  • Insights about the outlook for single family housing markets over the next 2 years

Speaker:

  • Robert Dietz, SVP & Chief Economist, National Association of Home Builders
  • Michael Fratantoni, SVP & Chief Economist, Mortgage Bankers Association
  • Lynn Fisher, VP, Mortgage Bankers Association

Who Should Attend?

Lenders, homebuilders, and realtors along with associated services. Anyone developing business plans for residential real estate markets.
